Today we are chatting to Mark Farragher, Carton House’s Assistant Course Superintendent. A fixture on the hotel’s golf course for 23 years, 

Mark shares with us his career story to date and what makes working at Carton House, Fairmont such a special experience. 

1.Tell us about your career journey at Carton House, Fairmont?

When I first came to Carton House, Fairmont, I was a fully-qualified greenkeeper in golf course management, having studied near St. Andrews in Scotland.

I started as a greenkeeper and moved my way up the ladder. After a year and a half, I became the head greenkeeper on one of the courses 

before moving on to become assistant superintendent. 

2. What is your favourite part of the job? 

It may sound strange but my favourite part of the job is when everything works on the day. 

When you line everything up with the team and everything goes well, you can say you acheived some good work. 

I like that feeling where you can take away satisfaction from the job with you. 

3. What makes the Carton House, Fairmont employee experience so unique?

It’s definitely the history of the place. As a staff member, it’s incredible to be here every day and to be a part of the story. 

It’s a unique place to work, and there is so much happening all the time. You never get bored.

First, get as much experience as you can. Learn the tools and the different ways of greenkeeping in different climates.
