Carton House is built upon a long tradition of romance and celebration. The estate traces its origins back more than eight centuries to 1176, when the surrounding lands belonged to the FitzGerald family who went on to become one of the most influential families in Irish history. In 1739, Earl FitzGerald commissioned renowned architect Richard Castles, the talent behind several great Irish houses, to build Carton House. In 1747, James the 20th Earl of Kildare married Lady Emily Lennox and together the couple lived a beautiful life on the estate – the original Carton House love story.
Today, guests of Carton House can enjoy a Valentine’s Day reliving the glory days of its previous aristocratic owners with romantic walks and leisurely bike rides throughout the property, an intimate candlelit dinner in the Linden Tree restaurant, luxurious overnight accommodation and a sumptuous Carton House buffet breakfast the following morning.
For something extra special, couples can choose to enjoy a picnic hand prepared by the Carton House team of chefs by the Boat House, a relaxing and restoring treatment in Carton House Spa or a delicious serving of afternoon tea in the original Stewarts Kitchen of Carton House.
