A day in the life... Job Swap Day

At Carton House we take great pride in our hard working team that are dedicated to providing the impeccable level of service and care that is unique to our resort. Behind every strong team is a leader and our Senior Managers make it their duty to ensure all areas of the resort are operating to a high standard from golf, spa, food and beverage to sales and resort maintenance.

Every now and then we like to set our senior team a challenge and Job Swap Day allows them to enhance their resort knowledge, build relationships with other departments and most importantly, have a little fun!

This year our nervous but enthusiastic senior team jumped into their new roles head first. Here’s a little look at the day and some faces you may recognize from around the resort!

Francis Howley, Director of Golf donned a chef hat for the morning and a head set for the afternoon! It turns out our Golf Pros talents are not only limited to putting and long drives but also include sandwich making and handling the many queries that come through our switch board!

Our bright and bubbly Director of Rooms Division Helen Caters and our Director of Finance Margaret Cleary threw on their aprons and polished enough cutlery to get the Linden Tree team through breakfast service for a month! Helen also spent the afternoon in our golf shop learning about the wide range of brands we stock – we think she spent more time practicing her swing!

Next up is our Executive Head Chef Cathal who was put to work answering the phones in Human Resources and brushed up on his service skills as a waiter in the Coach House. It’s not every day you have an award winning chef and author serving you your club sandwich but for Cathal it’s always enjoyable to see the guests enjoying his recipes first hand.

Resort Superintendent John Plummer put his green fingers to use in the Kitchen and helped with soup of the day! John dedicates his time to keeping the resort, golf courses and training pitches in top condition. The kitchen team were certainly glad to have his help for the morning!

Our Purchasing Manager Otmar Wullich was pulled away from his spreadsheets for the day and assisted our golf team with yard operations. With the golf club at the heart of the resort it was an opportunity for him to experience the lively atmosphere as golfers picked up their buggies and hit the fairways for a round!

Always a friendly face at Carton, our Director of Sales and Marketing Monica O’Byrne made a great addition to the front desk team as she checked in our VIP guests for the day. She finished up with a barista master class in The Kitchen Bar which she left feeling surprised by the amount of skill involved. We take our signature coffee very seriously at Carton House and she certainly passed the taste test!

Kathy our HR Manager thought she was in for a treat when she was assigned a role in the Carton Spa but with a busy flow of guests and leisure members all the relaxing was done in the treatment rooms! Our accommodation team were glad to have a helping hand on their shift as she also helped with the room checks and bed making.

Last, but certainly not least we have our General Manager Adrian McLaughlin and Director of Food and Beverage Ciaran Hickey who were grateful for the fine weather as they took to the fairways and realized just how much hard work is involved with keeping two championship golf courses in excellent condition all year round. We are very proud of senior team and look forward to the next Job Swap Day!
