Types of fishing available at Carton House in Ireland:

Fishing Prices

Anglers can now buy a fishing permit at Guest Relations. The prices are below:

Adult €35 for 3hrs, €50 for 6 hrs

Child €15 for 3hrs, €20 for 6hrs.

An experienced angler can fish without the Ghillie, however a new or inexperienced angler will need a ghillie to be with them. The cost for a ghillie is an additional €50.00, and this is the charge for up to 4 anglers. The charge for the ghillie should be paid by the guest directly to the ghillie in cash.

Pike fishing

Pike fishing is suitable for beginners and experienced anglers. It involves spinning (normal/easy fishing) or fly-fishing for the pike. It is a very leisurely form of fishing, but can be very rewarding, with Pike weighing in excess of 24lbs being caught and released in the lake at Carton. There is also a boat available for hire at €20, although it is not really necessary for Pike fishing.

Trout fishing

The majority of people requesting to go trout fishing will be experienced. It is possible to spin for trout but customers usually request to go fly-fishing. The ghillie can provide fly-fishing tuition for beginners if necessary. The customer has an option of fishing in the river or the lake. The lake offers bigger fish and the river a larger quantity of smaller ones. The river can be tight and tricky to fish due to overhanging trees etc. There is also a boat available for hire at €20.

Salmon fishing

70,000 smolts (small salmon) were placed into streams and rivers within the carton estate in 2005. Many of these have started to return and have been seen in the river as early as August 2006. People wishing to fish for Salmon must contact us, to verify restrictions (such as fly-fishing only and open season times). Also the law requires any angler salmon fishing to hold a license; this can be obtained from a local tackle dealer in Lucan until further notice. Different rates are available i.e. €17 for a one day license for an adult.
